Visit in Dernbach

3.07.2005

Sunday started very fast. At 7.20 a.m. we were leaving to Dernbach, to the convent, where Grandma and Aunt at once of our project celebrities has worked - Mrs. Stanislawa Angiel. Aldona and our two Siamese Twins (Ewa & Iza) went with Barbara by car, whereas Junior, Radek, Marta, Kaska (all from Lodz) and Agnieszka & Gosia (from the neighbourhood of Lublin) made their places with Rüdi and Thomas in a crazy bus. Because of the fact that we sat in the vehicle No 2 we can easily write that it was a happy trip. As we were going to Dernbach bigger part took a nap, lying in weird positions, but coming back the situation changed radically, but the details will come later :). The way to the convent was with different images and expectations.
When we arrived, two sisters were already waiting for us. As 'Good morning' every of us received a rose picked straight from the bush. It started really nice. Firstly, some breakfast was prepared for us. The hit of the meal was...coffee (delicious). They made us a surprise when it appeared that sister Klaudia comes from Poland. Thanks to her, Przemo and Goska could relax a bit, cause the translator wasn't this time needed. By the tables we were talking with Mother Superior and others in German ( challenge!!).
After the second breakfast, with empty stomachs we weren't going to leave the nest, we were ready for the next events. At 10.00 a.m. there was a special mess in the church. There was an exceptional day for everyone - the new bells were consecrated. At first, for about a half an hour we were having sunbath (the sun was so strong), then we entered the church. At the beginning of the mess the priest said 'Hello and welcome!', later we have also met a few significant persons
in Dernbach.. You must have seen our photos from the mess, when we're trying to sing in German. I'm not the one to judge the results :). Next, there took place a gala, where the natives and some not from Dernbach :D, could taste some delicacies and drink as much as they wanted. Oh! We've eaten much too much. There was such a tasty sauce with small pieces of pork with fresh roll. Among the drinks we could choose between beer, juices, coke and Apfelwein (an apple wine - the most typical drink in Frankfurt and in the surroundings). I'm not sure if it tastes good, but it's not proper to discuss about the tastes). There took place a funny situation when the girls didn't know how to open the beer (sth with metal parts) and asked sister Klaudia for a help. That was really hilarious action when sister was trying to open it. As a rule, in new situations we feel insecure (but never homo-). Generally, all the people had a good time, they are really open and friendly. We were surprised that the priest knew everyone, was coming closer, shaking their hands, eating or drinking together. Really great atmosphere. Meanwhile the reporter, who according to our private investigation was invited by Rüdi, made a radio interview with Przemek, Kasia and Gosia. From time to time there could be heard sentence 'It can be erased', especially when Kiler told sth, incorrect of course.
Later sister Klaudia and one more sister showed us new hospital. Oh my Gosh, people have there better conditions than in the hotel! And what an incredible laboratory!! Ho, ho! So many things to envy! Pregnant women can make the decision whether they want to born in a traditional way or e.g. in water. Just paradise on Earth. The next point of programme was a visit in an old hospital, where nowadays sisters and doctors take care of the older. We have even the opportunity to meet the sister, who remembers Mrs. Angiel, but she thought that she came from the Ukraine. Extremely moving moments. Some girls couldn't stop their tears. As the last attraction was the hospital chapel, where we sung 'Jest zakatek na tej ziemi...' ('Czarna Madonno' probably), because Mother Superior wanted so much to hear it. A bigger part of us didn't know the words and that's why they were the creators of the, so called, Great Improvisation. A few minutes later we came in the conference room, where we could drink some juice or water. We didn't expect to find there the photo of John Paul II, it caught our sight immediately. I don't know the real reason of the photo on the table, maybe because of the kind of man that he was or to make us feel like at home, but the impression was unforgettable. We sat by the round table, so the time had come :) - we can start the debate. Every of us received as a souvenir the leaflet concerning the monastery and hospital and wine (Radziu and Przemek received the additional one, but not because of the genre or the attractiveness - for their Grandma-Aunt) and a good luck stone. There came time to say 'Goodbye' to the old hospital and we made for the monastery, where the afternoon tea was waiting in the dining room. All of us, full of eagerness, stood up (later it was a big effort)to get a piece of cake. Then, next gifts - small souvenirs, poem and additional brochures. We did receive a lot, not talking only about stomachs, or hands but the most of all our hearts. At the end, the relatives of Mrs. Stanislawa got books and envelopes. By now boys haven't revealed the content of the mysterious envelopes. It must be something like black box in a plane (top secret). Mrs. Angiel got as well a gift - a painting of an old wayside shrine, where she must have prayed during the war.
So the time to go on came. They had to give us some kicks in our bottoms ;). Sisters waved us and with happy faces we got in the cars. By the way we decided to make a short visit to Limburg, just a basic look-around. You can't even imagine how beautiful the city is, so old brick houses with the cellar dated back to XIII century!! Wonderful houses, with the pieces of wood, I don't know the exact name in Polish or English (in German they are called Fachwerkhäuser, Junior knew it). We spent there just about 1,5 hours, but fortunately a longer sightseeing is planned in September. The weather was sunny, but sometimes it was too much of the strong rays of light. We all, sweated and exhausted, got in the bus or car. As it was mentioned before, we changed the character of vegetable bus into the 'happy bus' :). We were singing various Polish and folk and patriotic songs. The day was full of activities and new memories. Let us have more days like this one!! CYa Fellas!
